Two brothers came from the county of Cumberlandshire in England in the early
1640's and settled in St. Mary's County, Maryland. One brother was William.
He married in Maryland in 1647, to a girl named Mary (last name is unknown.)
This was the beginning of the Wofford line in America.

ELIZABETH UNKNOWN Abt 1673 in Maryland.
Notes:
William and Mary had one son, William. He was born about 1648 in St. Mary's
County, Maryland. OFR states that they only had one child and that he was reared
an orphan by a family, not named Wofford. Records tend toward the fact that Mary
became a widow and married again, and that the stepfather and Mary reared the boy.

William Wofford was buried in Frederick County, Maryland. Rockville is in
the present Montgomery County formed 1776 from Frederick County, which
was formed in 1748 from Prince Georges County.

Notes:
Rock Creek in present Montgomery County formed 1776 from Frederick County,
which was formed in 1748 from Prince Georges County.
Some show he married Sarah Bell, but no records support this spelling.
Absolom and Sarah had eight children, five sons and three daughters. The five
sons and two of the daughters traveled to what would be known later as the
Spartanburg District of South Carolina. The five sons would one day be known
as the "Spartanburg Five." Of these five sons, four are documented to have served
in the Revolutionary War. One of the sisters who came to South Carolina was
Hannah Wofford who married her cousin Absolom Wofford, son of William Wofford.
