 Generation No. 5


1.  WILLIAM5 WOFFORD (ABSALOM4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, WILLIAM1) was 
born October 25, 1728 in Rock Creek, Frederick County, Maryland, and died 1823 
in Toccoa, Habersham County, Georgia.  He married (1) SARAH CAMERON 1748 
in Maryland.  He married (2) NANCY GREENLEAF Abt 1773.  He married (3) 
MARY BOBO Bef 1790.

     Notes:

     South Carolina was originally divided into four Colonial Counties, one of which 
     was Berkeley County.  In 1765 South Carolina was divided into seven districts, one 
     of which was Ninety-six District out of part of Berkley County.  96 District was 
     comprised of the Union and Spartanburg Counties.

     Moved from Maryland to what is now Spartanburg County about 1768 with his 
     brothers.  Moved to Franklin County, Georgia, by December 20, 1790.

     His grave has a DAR marker.  He was an ardent American Revolutionist.  He is 
     shown as Captain and as a Colonel in Revolutionary service in South Carolina 
     and Georgia.  He was one of the leading patriots of that region and served as 
     Lieutenant Colonel on Williamson's Cherokee Campaign of 1776.  He served 
     in Georgia and South Carolina under General Lincoln and doubtless shared in 
     the Battle of Stono.

     He is shown as a member of the Second Provincial Congress of South Carolina 
     November 1, 1775 to March 26, 1776. 

     He was a surveyor.

     The Wofford's went to Georgia Indian Territory in 1793 and built Wofford Station, 
     a fort in the northeast corner of Banks County.  It was the first white settlement in 
     northeast Georgia.

2.  WILLIAM6 WOFFORD (WILLIAM5, ABSALOM4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, 
WILLIAM1) was born Abt 1749 in Frederick County, Maryland, and died Abt 1795 
in Franklin County, Georgia.  He married UNKNOWN UNKNOWN Abt 1769.

                    Carolina; d. Abt 1796, Franklin County, Georgia.

3.  BENJAMIN F.6 WOFFORD (WILLIAM5, ABSALOM4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, 
WILLIAM1) was born 1758 in Frederick County, Maryland, and died March 02, 1836 
in Bartow County, Georgia.  He married MARY HOLLINGSWORTH.

     Child of Benjamin Wofford and Mary Hollingsworth is:

     6.     i.      WILLIAM HOLLINGSWORTH7 WOFFORD, b. Habersham County, 
                    Georgia; d. Abt 1826, Habersham County, Georgia.


4.  NATHANIEL6 WOFFORD (WILLIAM5, ABSALOM4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, 
WILLIAM1) was born 1766 in Frederick County, Maryland, and died in Arkansas.  
He married LYDIA ANN HOPPER 1789 in Burke County, North Carolina.

     Notes:

     He and his son Charles helped take the Cherokee Indians on their " trail of tears" 
     to the West, and neither of them returned.  Charles's wife was an Indian.

5.  JAMES6 WOFFORD (WILLIAM5, ABSALOM4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, 
WILLIAM1) was born March 03, 1771 in Spartanburg District, South Carolina, and 
died December 01, 1831 in Spartanburg District, South Carolina.  He married CELIA 
BENNETT June 06, 1792.

ABSALOM4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, WILLIAM1) was born in Habersham County, 
Georgia, and died Abt 1826 in Habersham County, Georgia.  He married 
NANCY M. TATUM.

     Children of William Wofford and Nancy Tatum are:

7.  WILLIAM BENTON7 WOFFORD (NATHANIEL6, WILLIAM5, ABSALOM4, 
WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, WILLIAM1) was born May 13, 1791 in Spartanburg District, 
South Carolina, and died June 09, 1858 in Baldwin, Georgia.  He married (1) MARY 
LANE August 08, 1812.  He married (2) RACHEL DILL.

and died April 13, 1895 in Orlando, Florida.  He married (1) CAROLINE 
UNKNOWN.  He married (2) REBECCA COCHRAN August 23, 1829 in 
Habersham County, Georgia.

He married MARIAH CRUMBLY January 29, 1829.

12.  ROBERT8 WOFFORD (CHARLES7, NATHANIEL6, WILLIAM5, ABSALOM4, 
WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, WILLIAM1) was born 1840, and died 1900.  He married 
MARTHA JANE WRIGHT.

     Children of Robert Wofford and Martha Wright are:

13.  JAMES C.8 WOFFORD (JOHN7, NATHANIEL6, WILLIAM5, ABSALOM4, 
WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, WILLIAM1) was born March 10, 1840, and died December 
30, 1913 in Cartersville.  He married HENRIETTA LOUIS SATTERFIELD 
October 21, 1868.

16.  MINNIE B.9 WOFFORD (ROBERT8, CHARLES7, NATHANIEL6, WILLIAM5,

JAMES T. RICH, son of Mary Wofford.
